Using werden for the future
As long as you know how to conjugate werden, you can form Futur I: the matching form of werden + the infinitive of the main verb at the end.
Ich werde morgen einkaufen
I will go shopping tomorrow
Du wirst Abendessen machen
You will make dinner
Er wird bald anrufen
He will call soon
Wir werden nach Berlin fahren
We will go to Berlin
Ihr werdet Spaß haben
You (plural) will have fun
Sie werden uns helfen
They / you (formal) will help us
Questions and negatives keep the same pattern: Wirst du kommen? · Ich werde nicht bleiben.
Talking about the future with the Präsens
A more common way to talk about the near future is the present tense plus a time expression (morgen, nächste Woche, in einer Stunde).
Morgen esse ich Fleisch
I’m eating meat tomorrow
Ich fahre nächste Woche nach Dessau
I’m driving to Dessau next week
In einer Stunde gehe ich los
I’m leaving in an hour
When to prefer werden
Use werden + infinitive when you want to:
- Sound a bit more formal or written
- Make a prediction without a clear time word
- Emphasize that something is still undecided
Es wird morgen regnen
It will rain tomorrow
Das wird schon klappen
That will work out fine
